Section 1.9: Review Exercises
This section gives you a chance to review everything you have learned in Chapter 1. The problems cover algebraic thinking, expressions, equations, inequalities, and functions.
Review Problems
- Simplify: \( 3x + 4x - 7 \).
- Evaluate \( 2x^2 - 5x + 3 \) when \( x = -2 \).
- Solve: \( 5x - 7 = 18 \).
- Solve and graph: \( 2x + 3 \leq 9 \).
- Write an equation for the line that passes through (0,2) with slope 3.
- Is the relation \( \{(2,5), (3,7), (4,9)\} \) a function?
- Determine if the graph of \( y = x^2 \) passes the vertical line test.
- Word Problem: The sum of two consecutive integers is 47. Find the integers.
- Word Problem: A rectangle has length 3 units more than its width. If the perimeter is 26 units, find the dimensions.
- Challenge: The product of two numbers is 48. The difference of the numbers is 2. Find the numbers.
