Section 2.9: Mixed Practice
This section combines problems from previous sections (Newton’s Laws, Forces on Flat/Inclined Surfaces, Tension, Friction, and Systems of Connected Objects) to strengthen problem-solving skills.
Practice Problems
- A 10 kg block slides on a frictionless horizontal surface. A 50 N horizontal force is applied. Find acceleration.
- A 5 kg block rests on a 30° incline. Determine normal force and acceleration if friction is \(\mu = 0.2\).
- Two blocks, 8 kg and 5 kg, connected over a pulley. Find acceleration and tension.
- A 12 kg block is pulled along a horizontal surface with friction coefficient 0.1. Applied force is 100 N. Find acceleration and friction force.
- Block A (4 kg) and Block B (6 kg) connected on a frictionless pulley. Block B hangs vertically. Find acceleration and tension.
- A 3 kg block on a 45° incline connected to a 5 kg hanging block over a pulley. Find motion and tension.
- A 2 kg block moves under 10 N applied force at 30° above horizontal. Coefficient of friction 0.15. Find acceleration.
- Three blocks in series on a horizontal frictionless surface. Pulled by 30 N. Find accelerations and tensions between blocks.
- A 6 kg block on incline 60° connected to another 4 kg block over pulley. Friction neglected. Find acceleration and tension.
- A 5 kg block is pushed up a 25° incline with 20 N force. Coefficient of friction 0.1. Find net acceleration.
