Section 4.10: Unit Test

This unit test evaluates understanding of all key concepts in the Energy unit, including work, kinetic and potential energy, energy conservation, springs, pendulums, and energy bar charts.

Unit Test Questions

  1. A 2 kg block slides down a frictionless ramp 6 m high. Calculate speed at bottom.
  2. Spring with k = 300 N/m is compressed 0.2 m. Mass = 1.5 kg. Find max speed on frictionless surface.
  3. Pendulum bob, mass 2 kg, released from 0.5 m height. Compute speed at lowest point.
  4. A 3 kg ball falls from 8 m. Draw energy bar charts at 0 m, 4 m, and impact.
  5. Block slides down 5 m high incline with friction μ = 0.1. Compute speed at bottom.
  6. Roller coaster, 500 kg, starts at 10 m height. Find speed at bottom neglecting friction.
  7. A 1.2 kg object moves along horizontal spring (k = 200 N/m) compressed 0.15 m. Determine velocity upon release.
  8. Sketch energy bar charts for a block on a frictionless ramp of 3 m height, showing top, middle, bottom.
  9. Object dropped from 12 m. Find speed just before impact and illustrate PE-KE transformation.
  10. Spring potential energy = 8 J. Mass = 2 kg. Find speed if released on frictionless surface.
