Section 5.10: Unit Test
This unit test covers all topics from Momentum, Impulse, Collisions, Explosions, and Systems of Particles. Attempt all questions and check your understanding of momentum concepts.
Unit Test Questions
- A 2 kg object moves at 3 m/s and collides elastically with a 3 kg object at rest. Find final velocities.
- Two ice skaters push apart. Masses 55 kg and 45 kg. Skater 1 moves at 1.8 m/s. Find speed of skater 2.
- Explosion: 6 kg object at rest splits into 4 kg and 2 kg fragments. 4 kg moves at 3 m/s. Find velocity of 2 kg fragment.
- A rocket ejects 15 kg fuel at 120 m/s. Rocket mass 85 kg. Find rocket velocity after fuel ejection.
- Inelastic collision: 5 kg at 4 m/s collides with 3 kg at 2 m/s. Find combined velocity.
- Object of 10 kg explodes into three fragments. Two velocities given. Determine third velocity vector.
- Two objects collide elastically in 2D. m1=3 kg, v1=2 m/s; m2=4 kg, v2=3 m/s at 90°. Find final velocities.
- A particle splits in midair into two equal masses moving at 45° to horizontal. Find velocities if one is 5 m/s.
- System of 3 carts on frictionless track. Momentum vectors: calculate final velocity vector after collision.
- Calculate center of mass velocity for 2 particles: m1=4 kg, v1=2 m/s; m2=6 kg, v2=-3 m/s.
